So many kids use this area for play and recreation. It would be wonderful to retain some of that, regardless of what the buildings are used for. I feel strongly that whatever is put here does not create more traffic or commercial activity, including things like dumpsters and other things that generate odor and noise.
I’ve walked the streets near St Stephen’s many times over the years. My overwhelming instinct is that the area is organically residential and home to myriads of families. As the school is no more, I strongly support demolition of the building and redevelopment either in single family or multi family residences. Barring that, green space

I attended St. Stephen from kindergarten through 8th grade four decades ago, and I had classmates from all over the eastern part of Grand Rapids as well as EGR. (I’m still an EGR resident.) The neighborhood handled school and church traffic for nearly 100 years, so historical use would suggest the property and surrounding area
The most obvious solution would be too look to attract a charter school to the area. Adding an accessible charter school to the community would provide an additional option for the community that is so focused on the value of education, completing our terrific public and parochial schools in the community. Time to turn this property from exempt status to taxable status. Residential development- raise all current structures to make room for individual new construction. Or perhaps change some of the exisitng buildings into multi-family units.
