Recently I read the proposal to add hundreds of new rental units and condos into this undeveloped space in EGR. Over the past several years, every open parcel of land has been, or is being developed into more housing, and we’re losing the last reminents of natural beauty outside of Reeds and FIsk Lake. Adding more housing is only going to bring in more families and further strain our schools and max class sizes, which are already mostly maxed out. We also have limited childcare or preschool options, barely able to handle the resident needs as it sits today. Furthermore, the plans include 5 to 7 story buildings, which just don’t seem to fit the residential/community style in East Grand Rapids and will further block views of the lake and natural resources.
