One Big Cul de Sac

Greetings,

I’ve been tracking this development since Jade Pig destroyed the front corner of the Jacobson’s Building in a nick of time to initiate the effort. I will be out of town the night of the next meeting. Here are my thoughts.

1) The differences between the 4 concepts represented on this site are very subtle. All of these are in essence a large cul-de-sac. I fear that one will feel like they are sneaking into development and the absence of the feeling of inclusion will be the result. None of the concepts represent broader thinking or ideas presented earlier that include a “simply passing through to see what’s going on” option (see option 1 in the 2020 proposal). Gone is the village feel that is found in Boulder, Aspen, Holland, and other “village” communities. This development should not feel like a box-canyon. The horizon should always be within view.

2) I would like to see volumetric studies being done for the elevation. In 2020 there was much discussion about overall height being mid-pitched-roof vs. flat top. As well as a revival of comparative heights to adjacent structures… the PACK, the antennas at the football field, etc. As well as what it will look like with proposed structures from the lake as this will impact both sunrise and sunset experiences. Corewell Blodgett is too far away to be included in this concern. You are only telling part of the story.

3) I submitted a letter (e-mail dated September 26, 2024) with concerns about Gaslight needing to be a destination for adjacent communities vs. just serving EGR. Please refer to that letter for my thoughts. There is a lot of chatter about more restaurants being included. We can’t just be a place to go eat.

Thank You.
