Let’s pioneer change and transform this dated-underdeveloped area to be friendly and welcome to initiatives, businesses and services that better meet our vision as a community as we look ahead to the next 50+ years. With folks being more mindful of sustainable living, having permanent bicycling and walking infrastructure and connected routes would encourage more foot and cycle traffic, lessen car traffic congestion, air pollution, noise pollution and be a desire asset to potential community members looking to move here and grow the tax base. Making this area more desirable to “stay awhile” will improve business revenues as well as encourage community connections. A Mini “Cultural Trail” (reminiscent of the Indianapolis Cultural Trail) connecting areas of Gaslight to other areas like Eastown SAFELY would greatly improve quality of life for residents and business owners. We have a chance to partner with Grand Rapids’ improvements and tout a vision that will also appeal to the next generation. We can make things safer, better and more appealing to current and future residents by pioneering better pedestrian and bicycling infrastructure, especially with the rise in cycling and scootering by children and adults alike.
